Artist Bio.
Baya Michaelson (Born: Michael E. Clay), was raised and schooled in the Big Sur/Monterey area. At the age of 2, Baya was playing Suzuki Violin. By the age of 4 he was playing the Piano in classical fashion. By the age of 9, Baya had developed into an Alto Saxophone player which he continued for many years. Young Baya then, was playing for the Middle School Jazz Band while training as a Distance Runner for the High School Track Team and Surfing in big waves off the stormy jagged California coast. To this day, Baya claims that his times spent in “Large Water” has developed him into the performer we know, more so than “any education on land”. Before High School, Baya studied summers at Robert Louis Stevenson School for Music. By the age of 14, Baya had performed in Jazz clubs with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Soder and Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown’s Drummer). Though not keen on Jazz, in 1987 Baya left the Saxophone and turned to computers as a viable option for creating new musics. There is no record on file for the next decade.
