There are more than one band that goes by the name Baroque:

1) baroque (Originally known as バロック) is a Japanese rock band, formed in 2001.

The band formed when the guitarist Akira (晃) (from Shiver) and bassist Bansaku (万作) (from After effect) invited Ryo (怜) (the vocalist of kannivalism) to their new band. Kei (圭) (the guitarist of kannivalism) also joined with Ryo. That time baroque also had a drummer named Naru (ナル).

baroque debuted in July 2001 and went major rather quickly doing their first one-man in August 2001.

Upon forming, baroque retained a sort of image, but they lacked the “darker,” more goth aspect visual kei usually presented. Because of this, baroque are considered to be the founders of - the happier, more fashion-conscious side of the visual scene in Japan. In their later days as a band, baroque rid themselves of this visual style and opted for more casual, everyday clothing instead.

In April 2002, Naru left the band and new drummer Yuji (祐二) replaced his place in June 2002. But in May 2003, Yuji also left the band.

baroque disbanded in September 11, 2004. This happened ten days after releasing their first album: “sug life”. It is said that reason for their disbanding were Bansaku’s doubts towards his bass skills, so because of this he wanted to leave the band. The other members, unable to see their band going on without their friend, also decided to end the band.

I wonder how their next stuff will sound. I really hope they get this new album released by early fall and get over with this.

I'd be okay with them if they'll release a some sort of "sequel" for Sug Life since that album had an interesting soundscape - but of course, I am fine with Tokyo Stripper/Chaplin-sound too!

"I'm excited they're going to do stuff, doesn't matter which band is active now". I understand you are content with the current situation, because as the majority you prefer baroque over boogieman (something I will never understand but I can tolerate your prefereces). But as a boogieman fan this is a huge pain in the ass. I like baroque, but they had their time, and the new singles are not moving the band forward at all. I'd rather had kannivalism, kei's solo and boogieman active than none of them but baroque doing an endless cashgrabing tour.

v ugh what's up with that frown (-_-) I'm excited they're going to do stuff, doesn't matter which band is active now, I'm just glad these people are active. Also, while I have to agree that Kei does "always sound the same", he also always sounds different. I don't think what he's doing is the bad kind of recycling. It's more like, he has a signature sound, but it evolves and becomes more elaborate every time with the new things he learns to do.

They updated their look on their webpage a couple weeks, so they may release new music soon. :(

I love all three, and considering my expectations were so high, I'm glad they didn't disappoint. 凛然アイデンティティ is the favorite so far though :333
