Barbara Panther

Berlin-based, Rwandan-born Barbara Panther is an electronic musician and performer. Her (self-titled) debut album was produced by Matthew Herbert and released in May 2011.

Panther’s family fled to Belgium from Rwanda when she was three. As a teen, Panther left performing arts school for Berlin after hearing German electronic music for the first time on the radio. In an interview with the Guardian, she explains “I’m a nomad, it’s in my blood … when you stop growing in a certain place you have to move on if you believe that you can grow more”.

Panther worked her way up through Berlin’s live scene handing out demos in clubs and collaborating with various producers and DJs, eventually getting signed to City Slang. She has worked with RHYTHM MONKS, Jahcoozi and Kid 606.
