I Heard A Rumour (3:26)

While only a relatively minor hit in their home territory of the UK (#14), I Heard A Rumour was a sizeable hit in North America peaking at #4 on the US Billboard charts and reaching #2 in Canada. It was also Top 10 (#8) in New Zealand and Top 40 (#32) in Australia.

“…Rumour” was the first single released from Bananarama’s “Wow!” album and was released in July 1987. The “Wow!” album continued the relationship with production team Stock Aitken Waterman, who were responsible for producing the US #1 hit Venus and the minor hit single “More Than Physical” from the group’s 1986 “True Confessions” album.

Pete Waterman from the production trio has claimed that “I Heard A Rumour” is one of his favorite songs.

The years 1987/1988 turned out to be a period of commercial success for the all girl group with a string of hit singles on both sides of the Atlantic.
