Biography

Bad Company UK are a collective consisting of Jason Maldini, Darren White (aka D-Bridge), Dan Stein (aka DJ Fresh) and Michael Wojicky (aka Vegas). They were originally called Bad Company but the UK was (unofficially) added to avoid confusion with the group of the same name.

Bad Company UK burst onto the drum and bass scene in 1999 with the the dnb anthem ‘The Nine’. This lead to releases on Grooveriders prototype recordings and eventually a debut album ‘Inside the Machine’ released on their own label BC recordings. The album went down well for its dark, haunting basslines and its tight production. Bad Company kept on putting in the hours in the studio, releasing many big tunes such as ‘planet dust’, ‘mo fire’ and ‘the hornet’ as well as releasing a further 3 albums ‘Digital Nation’, ‘Book of the Bad’ and ‘Shot Down on Safari’. They were one of the leading names in the drum and bass scene and even featured in NME magazine, but instead of aiming to become commercially succesful, they chose instead to fuel the underground drum and bass scene.

However, in 2003 the group decided to go their separate ways, with DJ Fresh and D Bridge deciding to produce independantly and Vegas and Maldini continuing to work under the name Bad Company.

    Word to the person below me. Listening to DnB for almost 2 years now with Spor being my gateway/bridge to DnB. In my case mainly due to the impopularity / underground-status of the genre. Feels great to re-discover all those classics once you're in instead of sticking with "What's hot right now". Pun intended.

    I've only seriously been into D&B since 2011, I pretty much stuck with Noisia, Current Value, Donny & a handful of others for years before I decided that I needed to expand. Now, thanks to a last.fm friend, I have these guys & so much more to explore. Exploring older D&B is so fun, there's SO MUCH amazing stuff out there! The possibilities of music discovery never end no matter how old or new you are into a style! Regarding their songs, I've only heard Nitrous a couple of times thus far, but I will undoubtedly be looking more into this group over the weekend. Oh, and both Bad Company's are great in my book. Even if you don't like Rock, you should at least respect the 70's artist, they are pretty legendary in their own style.

    "and besides, aren't they both from the UK?!" I can be from India and name my band "Rock Band Russia". Get my point? It's a name, it doesn't represent where they come from.And actually, they are also called Bad Company on their past albums because they only changed their name lately. But I agree the admins should do something about it, even though Bad Company UK is now their official name and they hold absolutely no rights to the Bad Company name now, their records were still recorded under the name Bad Company.

    No offense to anyone (this is seriously just some information), but Bad Company is actually a pretty huge band. Their last new release was in 1987, but they're still a big band. I'm kind of surprised that this band didn't know about them.
