San Francisco’s Bad Astronauts (née Slumberjack) epitomized the 90s: their sound was compared to Nirvana and the vocalist was often compared to Michael Stipe of R.E.M. After two releases as Slumberjack, including the CD Jay, the quartet changed their name to Bad Astronauts and cut two more releases for Blomi Records (Time Of My Life 7” and In Love) before disbanding in 1998. They received rave reviews from magazines such as Magnet and garnered college radio airplay. KZSU Stanford 90.1 FM once noted of their sound, “It’s got a slight post-punk thing going on at times. Pretty cool stuff.”
