Brian Transeau (born Brian Wayne Transeau on October 4, 1971, in Rockville, Maryland) is an American musician who records under the stage name BT. From an early age, BT, demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for playing and understanding classical music. He was heavily influenced by avant-garde and romantic composers such as Stravinsky, Bartok, Debussy and Rachmaninov. His biggest influences, however, were from everyday sounds that most would take for granted, from noticing the meter of the grandfather clock in the foyer to the micro-rhythms of crickets and cicadas to the ambience of passing trains at night.
The drive to actualize the tools BT envisions has led to his evolution as one of the most cutting-edge programmers and technologists in music today. He has expanded this reach into a visionary software venture, Sonik Architects which launched its critically- and commercially-acclaimed iPhone application, Sonifi™.
Brian Transeau is the father of a young daughter, Kaia. He lives and composes his works in his Los Angeles home/studio in which he has a few Apple G5’s and 8 AMD dual-core Opteron 64-bit desktops which he uses for his techno-wizardry.

Black Eyed Peas is pop dance cheese. BT's music has a level of intricacy, emotion, depth, and meaning that has apparently escaped your ears. Putting him on the same level as all the pop house acts infecting the radio today with their simple, repetitive loops and mindless lyrics is not just grossly inaccurate. It's also an insult to BT's technical skill, his innovative approach to electronic music, and ability to create music that people can "feel". Don't like it? Perhaps your standards for what constitutes music that isn't "pop dance cheese" are unrealistically high? Fair enough. However, if you or anyone else groups BT with the derivative, soulless electro pop acts out there, expect people to call you on it. He commands tremendous influence, and that is something you can't escape.

I listened to it all the way through several times and only liked three tracks. Rose of Jericho, Every Other Way, and Le Nocturne de Lumière are the only decent tracks. And while the album is well produced, it has no soul like BT's previous efforts. I could care less about production if the music has no soul/depth. Most of BT's previous albums had amazing production combined with a depth that few other artists reach. Listen to Mercury and Solace and Flaming June, then come back and tell me this album is quality compared to what is the norm for BT. And incase you have not figured it out yet: Great Production + No Depth = Pop Music. Just another pop album.... All flash and glam, little substance.

But if you listen to it all the way through you can feel how This Binary Universe has shaped BT as an artist and you can feel how this album is full of emotion and strength. If it must be compared to BT's other work, I'd say it's a mash of ET and TBU with the best of each. THƎSƎ HOPƎFUL MACHINƎS is definitely worth a listen because there's no possible way to dislike this album.
