Biography

Kyoto, Japan (1995 – present)

Kaori Asada (浅田香織, born April 16, 1973, in Kyoto, Japan), known by her stage name BONNIE PINK, is a Japanese singer-songwriter. She first appeared on the scene in 1995 with the album Blue Jam. Although it failed to gain her much notice, two years after meeting The Cardigans producer Tore Johansson, BONNIE PINK released Heaven’s Kitchen, which gained her good sales and recognition. To date she has released eleven studio albums, as well as several compilations.

She has sung ending themes for several Japanese anime: “It’s gonna rain!” for Rurouni Kenshin, “Last Kiss” for Gantz, “Cotton Candy” for Guyver: Bioboosted Armor. “Love is Bubble” is used as the theme song for the Japanese movie Memories of Matsuko (嫌われ松子の一生), which also casts her. She also sings the song Kane wo Narashite for the Tales of Vesperia game by Namco Bandai, as well as recording Ring a Bell in English for the US/EU release. Although the tune is the same, they actually share different lyrics if translated.

BONNIE PINK is another of the multi-talented females doing it for themselves; not only a song-writer, she often takes part in the composing process and has proved to have talent in it. Her style is somewhat softer than singers such as Shiina Ringo, but her skill is no less evident. She also has a talent for singing in both English and Japanese with reasonable skill.

I have to say I'm kinda surprised we're by the middle of the year and she doesn't have any new single out yet. Guess I got a bit used to having new music from her in the beginning of the year

Well, only had time to get acquainted with two of her albums so far, but I did rather enjoy both of them. At worst, her music just gives me an oddly isolated feel, but it could just be because she's unfamiliar to me. I think Even So has the edge here just a bit, but so far, only because I was busy half the time Golden Tears was playing, so I didn't pay as much attention to it. Still, I'll be looking more into her. Thanks again for the recs!

Even So, Golden Tears, and Thinking Out Loud to start with? Alright, then. Thanks for the recs, guys! (Though I do like starting with whatever their latest release is at the time, but not always...) Well, I'll get to her in a bit, then.
