BBC Radio 1 - a British national radio station owned by public broadcaster BBC. Established in 1967, when it was considered that the existing BBC radio channel devoted to popular music - BBC Light Program - is not sufficiently attractive to young audiences, who prefer a variety of pirate radio. Light Program was therefore divided into two new stations - targeting young people, and Radio 1 for some senior BBC Radio receiver 2.
In theory, Radio 1 audience are people aged 16 - 24 years old. In practice, however, in recent years, the average age of the audience is close to the thirty, and those genuinely very young sister takes over the station, BBC 1Xtra. Information services clearly differ from other programs from a BBC News - are presented much more rapidly, is also a selection of other topics. The station presents a broad mix musical genres, incorporating such styles as rock, house, world music, pop or rap.
Radio 1 is available in the UK through the analog and digital terrestrial broadcasting. They can also be found on the UK and U.S. digital platforms and on the Internet. Since 1999 a small part is splitting time between the four British principality.
The current BBC Radio 1 logo used from September 2007. The logo reminds BBC logo black, and below it the words “RADIO”. To the right of them there is a black circle (in the middle of a white figure 1).
