There are at least four known artists with the name Atmosphere.
1) Atmosphere, a Minnesota alternative rap group, formed around 1994. At its creation, the group was called “Urban Atmosphere”. Unlike many hip hop groups, Atmosphere provide their own live instrumentation, usually consisting of bass guitar and drums. Atmosphere originally consisted of Spawn (MC), ANT (producer) and Slug (DJ at the time). After Spawn left the group (now rapping under the name Rek The Heavyweight) the line up was set, with Slug, ANT and a rotating DJ. Currently the group consists of rapper Slug (Sean Daley), producer Ant (Anthony Davis), and Touring DJ Mr. Dibbs (Brad Forste). Slug is also one of the co-founders of a Minneapolis hip hop label called Rhymesayers Entertainment. The band has had hit singles on a variety of Billboard charts in the United States: 2002’s “Modern Man’s Hustle” went to #18 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart and 2008’s “You” hit #38 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
2) Atmosphere, an obscure one hit wonder Italo-disco group of the early 80’s. The group was produced by Franco & Venise Scopinich, and their one single “Swede’s Scandal” was realased on Superradio Reccords (label owned by Franco & Venise Scopinich).

I agree with shackleford10. Some of the old stuff eclipses today's stuff. I remember all I could listen to was Lemons before but then I slowly started going further back and back. I think more people should hear "The Abusing of the Rib". Probably my favourite Atmosphere track (though The River is up there as well). Look those two up on YouTube. "The Abusing of the Rib" is on Headshots: Se7en and "The River" is on Sad Clown Bad Dub II (though a better live version of it is on Sad Clown Bad Dub III). If you want to go REALLY old school then look up "Wooden Ships" which is from 1994. Very good song.

I got into Atmosphere via 'You Can't Imagine...' but I reckon that their new stuff is pretty accessible so is a good intro before trying out everything else. I don't think much of Seven's Travels though when compared to the rest of their material so I wouldn't check that out first. Also, check the Bad Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter eps. Good material there as well. :)
