From the heart of Illinois , the current incarnation of Ashes of Avarice was born in late 2009 out of pure frustration and chagrin due to the constraint the members faced in previous musical projects. All the current members have known each other both in and out of social and musical circles for the better part of a decade, and they one day decided to correlate and produce a fine product of metal music, one that gains influence from a broad range of assorted tastes yet stays true to the institution that is metal.
Roots of the band can be traced back to 2006 when Keith Collins (drums) , Bunky Walker (bass), and Kerry Miller (guitar) came together to form the foundation of the band. After running through numerous vocalists and styles of music, the group decided to seek out the efforts of Steve Southard (vocals) , a vocalist who has seen stints in numerous bands from around the area, including A Hill to Die Upon, the Caliphate, Of Parting Words and Follow the Blind, the band that marked the beginning of the working relationship between Southard and Collins. Collins would go on to substitute for Of Parting Words as a drummer through the summer of 2005, a move that ultimately led to him taking time off from music until re-surfacing in the early stages of this band. Ashes of Avarice take influence from such bands as Carcass, Satyricon, and Napalm Death.
The group recorded it's two song demo over the summer of 2010 and shortly thereafter began to play shows in the Knox County area of midwest Illinois. Ashes of Avarice will be returning to the studio directly after the 2010 holiday season to begin work on their un-named 5 song ep.
