Sweden (2005 – present)

“Ashbury Heights” are a duo from Sweden consisting of the dynamic singer/producer/songwriter team of Anders Hagström and Kari Berg.

Originally, the duo consisted of Anders Hagström and Yasmine Uhlin. However, she announced her surprise departure from the band in Hamburg at the last concert of the Out Of line festival tour 2008.

Anders and Yazmine met in November 2005 and, upon discovering that they shared the same musical vision, decided to form a band. Their collaboration soon came to fruition with the release of a 9 track demo entitled “Angora Overdrive” after a very intensive month in the studio.

The second four track demo, “Parliament Of Rooks”, which was finished in February 2006, had a more refined sound compared to their first offering. They decided to send it to a few select labels because the reaction they got to the first demo was quite overwhelming. Having sent the demos on Monday, Ashbury Heights was contacted and contracted by German Out Of Line records on Wednesday, only an hour after the label had received the CD. This probably makes Ashbury Heights one of the fastest signings in history. Several other labels expressed an interest in the band, but there was no bidding war as Out of Line moved so quickly.

Although having signed the famous German act “And One” at about the same time as Ashbury Heights, which ate a lot of the labels’ resources, Out of Line wasted no time. The legendary producer John Fryer was brought on board to produce the promotional single “Cry Havoc” in April 2006, something quite unheard of in the world of the electronic underground.

His comments/insults are gone. That was quick...but his profile is still there. Either the troll deleted his brainfarts himself or last.fm people did. Yaz, you´ve probably just sent him to heaven right now...None of this is your fault and I think it's very kind of you to come here and stand up for Kari. The world/internet is full of people like him. He isn't the first to "verbalize his concerns" in an inappropriate kind of way and he surely won't be the last. I just hope Kari is not too upset by all of this...

Oh I didn't want you to get an impression that I blame you for his behaviour! Not at all, and actually the more I think about it, I realize that your stand here may do much good ( maybe not in this particular case as the guy is hopeless and the only thing that should be done about him is preventing him from writing another single word - for now that is the last.fm's crew job) as you clear the air and explain the situation for those of the AH fans that are still.. well.. confused, let's say. As long as there are people convinced that someone is to blame (or should be blamed) for the change in the AH female vocal, those kind of tense situations will keep occurring. So I actually think that you words may have helped to get rid of the tension ;)

ChemicalProject: I can't be held responsible for his actions though I do see your point. I've refrained from interacting with things like these for the past year because we all have to win our personal battles but this has gotten out of hand. I am more than used to people like him, stubborn, without integrity and manners and I also know that you do best in leaving them alone but like you said; when someone's wishing that bad things should happen to another, things have gotten too far. That is why I felt the need to at least have my say in this since I sadly have been mentioned a few too many times (by him, that is) I told Anders to report this person to last fm's crew for the time being. Should his "insults" take on a more serious and perhaps threatening form then he should be thrown to the Swedish politicians! They love hunting rotten trolls on the internet, which has nothing to do with this, but still ^^

Yaz, I understand the motivation behind your appearing here, you're right about every single thing that you write about but I'm afraid that it will only become an incentive for him to insult Kari even more. What I mean is - YOU've decided to write to him, he's probably having a verbally triggered SM-kind of an orgasm right now. Also I'm just wondering if there's a possibility of deleting his messages or banning him from posting here, it's not even a matter of his likes and dislikes but he simply validates the rules of the netiquette. People from Last.fm tech-support should think about adding a 'report' button as wishing that something bad happens to another person is just crossing the line.

To everyone else: I'm sorry for turning a rock in here but when I talked to Kari this morning I felt the need to step in. This is not acceptable to me and I take it very seriously. Kari is not the only one "suffering" from this. I see it as a personal insult when people treat my old band with such disrespect. Both Javelynn Fate and Ashbury Heights welcome constructive criticism but downright bullshit and threats will not go unnoticed. I hope all of you can enjoy your stay though! Thank you for your support and I live for the day when both Ashbury Heights and Javelynn Fate can spend every waking moment with what we love to do the most; music. Take care everyone! Love - Yaz

Sadly I feel I have to step in before things get out of hand. I have no interest in drama between bands, band members and fans but this has nothing to do with the art of music anymore. "YourSlut" : I do not tolerate this kind of behaviour from my fans. You are entitled to your personal opinions but you will not use them as a mean to weaken Kari or Ashbury Heights. I love Ashbury Heights, not for what they now do or necessarily for who they are but for my part in it! You spit upon my work and years of struggling yet you try to make your statements look like praise on my part? This has to stop, now! You have disappointed me and I don't want to have anything to do with a "fan" like you. If you are disappointed in the way things turned out with Ashbury, then I'm sorry, but neither you nor anyone else has the right to question or judge the way we chose to live our lives in music. Either appreciate the past and let it be, or stop listening. We do not create for people like you.

About the Blutengel remix, I think it's actually pretty hard to remix a very bad song made by a very bad band. But the result is nice (well, nicer than the original which wasn't hard). Oh and Yourslut, just fuck off please :].

It's a good thing you don't take him seriously...and I know there's no point discussing this with him but his comments were so utterly stupid, for some reason I just couldn't leave it like that. I will do so now. About the Blutengel remix: for such a short time it came out great. I think it suits your voice...and I like it more than the original...so... anyway, let's all just ignore "stupid" comments like that and go back to happier topics. The diary for example...=)

Yourslut: Yes, my purpose of life. I joined the band just to torment you. You who I had never known, seen or knew existed ;) And by the way if Anders has so bad taste in women, then it's interesting that Yaz joined since she was his girlfriend at that time ;D I thought you liked her? chemicalproject & Dirty_Mistress: I don't take him serious :) I was not happy with the gig in Finland so I understand if he noticed it and I'm not happy with the Blutengel remix either by the way, we only had a few days on us to do that one. I am always thankful for constructive criticism since I know that I have much to learn. But I will make it clear once and for all Yourslut. I will NOT leave the band just because some ppl don't like me. Music is my life and I will not stop doing it. And you shouldn't doubt Anders. He lives for music as much as me and he choosed me for my talent. So if you question HIS intention for bringing me in the band, then you really shouldn't listen to us.

@ Dirty_Mistress: There's actually no point in having any kind of discussion with that guy, it's not worth wasting energy. I just hope Kari will not take him and his nonsense seriously (@Kari: please, honey, don't! ;) ).

Surely that's the only reason why Kari is now part of the band...-.- ...Fine, we've established the fact that you don't like her but stop insulting her pls...again there's no reason for that. Give some constructive criticism instead. Calling people names is not constructive and has nothing to do with their music, which is what matters....

@Yourslut: Yaz decided to quit the band on HER own. It´s not Kari's fault and she did not destroy the band in any way. If you don't like her voice that's okay. However it's not okay to call her ugly, a slimy monster or whatever rude, uncalled for and unpleasant thing that comes to your mind. It has nothing to do with her being part of the band or talent as a singer. In fact it's just incredibly childish and not to mention mean. Kindergardeners have higher standards than you do. If you don't like it, stop listening. There is absolutely no reason for you to behave like a childish asshole...People...unbelievable...-.- ...On a happier note...I <3 the City Nights Remix you guys did for Blutengel. Even though Anders doesn´t seem to be very happy about it (blog myspace). Excited for the album and the studio diary is entertaining...^___^

@ Yourslut: What does being 'hotter' have to do with anything? If you actually think that it's significant in this particular case then I'd have to say that this is the most ridiculous idea I've heard all week.

A video diary, cool :) Maybe the earlier version of Shades of Black mentioned in the video would be a neat track to put on a bonus disc for the new album?
