    okay, i'm a bit anxious about saying this but here goes: i was initially hesitant to call before today a good album. but, i really overlooked this opening song. Suddenly, this is my favorite track from the album. It just opens and sets the mood so perfectly for the rest of the record. it's almost like AP knew this album would be his big break; this track carries a really shallow sense of luxury. the smarmy sax, the jet engine/sports car sfx. it all sounds like effortless success. the entire album sounds flat and even pretentious to those unfamiliar with ariel pink. hell, it even alienated many long-time fans. but that's really the magic of it. before today is a sellout album from start to finish. it was the next logical step in ariel's discography and it is brilliant.

    This is the best intro to an album i've ever heard. It's part latin ska, part "back in the ussr", brilliant. I jam the five minute version quite regularly. I need to catch AP's second Chicago show of 2010 to try to get one of those added pizzaz LPs.

    I really REALLY hated this track when I heard it for the first time. But, I LOOOOOOVE it, now. The gong intro, tire screeches, and helicopters taking off. Such an eclectic mix.
