Turns out most of my favorite stuff by him was actually by Keisuke Ito, hopefully soon to be famous for AI: The Somnium Files! Gotta give this guy his due for setting the groundwork for the "Pokémon meets Shiren style", though, and plenty of other classics across both titles even if the series is notoriously bad at crediting its composers.

The credits under "sound" denote 5 people, three of which are on the record as composers for other games, Arata Iiyoshi, Keisuke Ito, and Hideki Sakamoto. A deleted interview confirmed Ito wrote everything for Sky's extra missions. If it sounds like PMD1 or uses the Time Gear motif, Iiyoshi probably wrote it. If it's from Sky or sounds like something from Sky, it's probably Ito. Steam Cave and others with the wide sweeping scales are Sakamoto.

Yo where can I find this interview? This is blowing my mind. I knew Keisuke Ito did the later games' soundtracks and I can definitely hear a bit of Gates on the Sky tracks.

Damn, I need to know where you found out who did which song! How do you know whether a particular song was Iiyoshi/Ito/whoever besides guesswork?

So these are the other games that the composers did and you're analysing their styles to who did what song? I'm familiar with Ethnoplex. I'm really determined to find out some more answers so I'll check those out too.
