About This Track
Aphex Twin’s Blue Calx evokes for me, a dreamy image of a barge on a flat canal as it chugs slowly, gracefully and sleepily through a very long tunnel.
All of the sounds in this track are very, very gentle - the bass note goes almost unnoticed on anything less than a huge pair of hifi speakers or top-notch headphones - it’s deep!
Sometimes it’s difficult to believe that Mr James could be responsible for this, given that much of his output is at the other, frenetic end of the spectrum.

The use of the metronome in this one (and Stone In Focus) is really clever. People use metronome's to lull them into sleep, using one on this song fits in perfectly with the ambient concept.
