Apes in the Orange Grove are:
Gijs van Osch: Vocals/Guitar
Joep van Osch: Drums / Percussion / Melodica / Backing Vocals
Don Gerritsen: Bass / Backing Vocals
For years brothers Gijs and Joep have been working on their indie chansons, slowly creating a signature sound of catchy melodies, danceable rhythms and melancholic lyrics. Typical for Apes in the Orange Grove's music is the simple directness of the songs, the brothers' harmonious voices, and the use of melodica and exotic percussion instruments.
In early 2008 funky bass player Don joined the band, and from then on the Apes started playing live a lot, especially in their home town of Amsterdam. More than forty gigs followed within the next year, at various venues, including Paard van Troje in the Hague and Paradiso in Amsterdam. And every month they play an acoustic set at Café 'Skek in Amsterdam.
Besides their many stage performances, the Apes also like to play their songs at unusual locations, like damp basements, movie theaters, fashion shows, ferry boats, train compartments and roof terraces. A live video of their song "August Amsterdam" for Irish website Balcony TV earned them a "Best International Act" award, and so far they have played twice on 3FM radio.
Apes in the Orange Grove's EP is freely downloadable from their website. Until the time has come for a full-length album they will keep on entertaining themselves and others by performing on stage as often as possible. If requested, they will also play in your living room.
