The Naked and Famous -
Review of 2009 - Strictly Personal!
3 Feb 2010, 16:34 by strajnic
"Hidden Treasures" Category - Less than 1.000.000 plays on Last.fm
1. The War On Drugs - Wagonwheel Blues (Adam Granduciel & Kurt Vile playing their guitars)
2. William Elliott Whitmore - Animals In The Dark (If you want to know anything about death, just ask mr.Whitmore!)
3. Jay Farrar & Benjamin Gibbard - One Fast Move or I'm Gone-Music from Kerouac's Big Sur (Words: Jack Kerouac Music: Jay Farrar & Ben Gibbard - it's hard to beat that combination!)
4. A.A.Bondy - When The Devil's Loose (On American Hearts Bob Dylan is poppin' up from time to time, and this one recalls Ryan Adams from Heartbreaker phase! The influences could not be better! )
5. Dave Rawlings Machine - A Friend Of A Friend {A friend (Dave Rawlings) of a friend (Gillian Welch) is my friend too!}
6. Kurt Vile - God Is Saying This To You? (experimental + sense for melody)
7. Antje Duvekot - The Near Demise Of The High Wire Dancer (reminds me of Nanci Griffith) (EU)

How Varied Is Your Music Taste?
14 Jan 2010, 02:19 by wallabyted
First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.
Final Score:
159/160
Blonde Redhead

The Best of 2009 ! ( according to Anja)
29 Dec 2009, 22:05 by anjaaaaah
Remember when I asked you all for ideas and stuff? Yeah, that worked out just splendid.
I listened to nearly 200 albums over the course of 2009 and tried really hard, but could not make a top 10. Top 20...huge fail. Top 30...nope.
So here is my top 20 of 2009 - and if you want to see their album covers AND the other 40 albums I just HAD to mention - go here!
Comments are always welcome. Bashing me for my musical preferences is not.
Only Amy is allowed to kick me, because I'm expecting it ;)
My top 20 from 1 -20 :
1. Storybox - You can be Replaced
The 2009 effort of Dutch band Storybox is by far my favourite of the year. Just like with their 2006 debut 'A fool's attempt', I can find no fault on it. As far as albums go, this is what perfection sounds like :)
Yay for Helge and the guys!
My favourite tracks are 'The Andersons' and 'Happy man'.
2. El Pino and the Volunteers - The Long -Lost art of becoming Invisible

The weekly High Rotation playlist, consisting of 5+1 tunes that will be played frequently over the next 7 days:
Shivaree -
Goodnight Moon
A long time favorite song, that I rediscovered last week.- Aslyn -
Me & You & Daisies
Aslyn's new album The Dandelion Sessions was a nice surprise for me (first heard on www.KGRL.fm). - Hoku -
If You Don't Want My Love
After her amazing debut in 2000 Hoku disappeared from my radar until I now discovered her EP Listen Up of 2007 (first heard on www.KGRL.fm). - Mina - Driving With You
A new single by MiNa, a project of Jaël, known as the voice of Lunik (first heard on www.KGRL.fm). - Tina Dickow - No Time To Sleep
I'm still addicted to Tina Dickow's (Tina Dico's) EP trilogy of 2008. Must listen to my favorite tune again. - Kate Voegele -
Angel (My bonus track for this week)
Again a new single that make me more curious about her new album.

modern sirens
24 Oct 2008, 16:21 by hdsander
I found an appealing iTunes Essential mix named modern sirens on the US iTunes. It's a compilation of nice tracks from many of my favorite female singers and I also found some new artists to adore on it:
