Anouar Brahem Trio

Trained since the age of 15 by Tunisian oud master Ali Sriti, Brahem has long been considered one of the masters of Arabic music. He has come to be known in Europe for a series of acclaimed releases such as Mardar, Khomsa and Thimar on the respected ECM label. These releases saw him work with Jan Garbarek, Dave Holland, John Surman and Richard Galliano to forge a new vision of Arabic and Mediterranean music. Yet it is work with his own trio over the last number of years which has brought Brahem most acclaim.
His recent Le Pas Du Chat Noir release and trio is a unique proposition. Hypnotic and magnetic it gives the clearest indication yet of the work of Brahem as composer and features a spacious “chamber music” that resonates with the freshness of improvisation. Brahem’s writing for this combination is highly evocative, meticulously controlled and sparse.
Like a modern day Middle-Eastern Satie, Brahem offers a meditative re-imagining of Arabic music.
