15 Feb 2010, 08:28 by RifugiumA night of avant-garde improv at The Stone, NYC. Two sets, featuring single improv pieces by various combinations of the following artists:
John Zorn (sax)
Toby Driver (bass)
Chikako Iwahori (tap)
Aya Nishina (piano)
Annie Gosfield (keyboards, sounds)
Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (double bass)
Kenny Wollesen (drums, percussion)
Ikue Mori (electronics)
Sylvie Courvoisier (piano, first set only)
And some other guy on drums also. Not sure who it was.
There's no way I'll remember all the combos, but they were mostly trios, one duet, and one quintet. Each set was concluded by a free-for-all featuring everyone listed above.
Tenko, Courvoisier, Mori
Zorn, , Blumenkranz
Driver, Gosfield, Mori
Driver, Mori, Nishina
Zorn, Wollesen, um...someone else
You get the idea.
Steeve Hurdle (x-Gorguts) was supposed to be one of the performers tonight (which would have been sick), but apparently he had problems at the border or something.
3 Feb 2008, 23:45 by be_quiet_peterHow is it that assholes my age who work in record stores with extremely limited scope or selection beyond pitchfork's picks of the fucking week feel so utterly satisfied with themselves?
Fuck Sic Alps. Fuck cross eyed bitter old men. Fuck heroin-chic. Fuck every band trying to be The Velvet Underground. Fuck the fans of these bands pretending they're backing a revolution. Fuck those stupid fucking '50s housewife glasses that hipster girls wear in smug irony. Fuck pedantic angular gnats who find no other way to express their own love for music than sneering childishly at...you know what? Fuck me for writing a journal about it.
p.s. fuck my ineptitude with grammar and punctuation when angry.
