The version they've been playing live is even better than that acoustic session, if that's possible.

the acoustic version in the KEXP session is probably one of the best songs anco has ever recorded. so ridiculously mystical and fantastic.

such an underappreciated song, and the acoustic version from the KEXP radio sessions is incredible!

It's got a killer, steady groove, and it's a nice set up for Amanita, probably my least favorite on the album though.

daMindkilla, I was thinking the exact same thing the first time I heard this on the stream. Also, nice handle!

The lyrics are brilliant. Seems to be about escapism and the rigors of growing up and the weight of responsibilities. Pulleys and vines want you take you upwards and on-wards but "they're natural cages" and "their smarts aren't in the books they wrote." (Life's unexpected twists and turns.) Sometimes you'd rather just escape to tunnels and caves when you're feeling low. Musically this is just another great Avery track from this album. Moonjock, Father Time, Pulleys, among others really show how much Tare has improved as a vocalist and lyricist. He still is writing these child-like lyrics but they have tons of thought to them.
