Wow. Im not religeous at all. But the lyrics dont bother me. I think the song is beautiful. I say, get over it and if you have a problem listening to the music and the meaning and can't push past the fact that they are a christian rock band. You shouldn't have went on their site. Get over it.
I guess people might see it as trite/preachy.
I personally think they're excellent, and nice Stephen gets a chance to throw in a subtle reference to his faith.
"Better love hath no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends."
Geez . People Really Don't Like These Lyrics Do They ? I Quite Like This Song ... It's Meaningful . And Some People Don't Like Meaningful Songs I Spose . I Don't Normally . But Some Songs Just Jump Out As Special . And This Is One Of Them . Sometimes You Don't Have To Even Listen To The Lyrics To Get The Message ... Because The Music Is That Good :)
All this song is talking about is Stephen's concern for other people as exemplified in his work in third world countries and support for TWLOHA. I don't think anyone has a problem with that so why with the lyrics? It's about living for others and important causes rather then yourself, simple enough.
I love this song, it is one of my favorite songs by them, very meaningful. And yeah I don't get why people don't like the lyrics. It is talking about how he has made mistakes in the past and that he needs forgiveness. And he knows now that living for yourself is not a good idea, and not fulfilling.
I don't get why people have a problem with this song. So the first line talks about heaven? So what? The religious connotations are otherwise very subtle and even if you were to take them away all together, the song still has a beautiful message. Get over it, guys.
