Biography

Varberg, Sweden (1993 – present)

Anata is a band formed in Varberg, Sweden in 1993 by Robert petersson (drums), Fredrik Schälin (lead guitar, vocals), Mattias Svensson (guitar) and Martin Sjöstrand (bass). Anata’s penchant for penning unrelenting with a razor-sharp sense of melody has always been an inherent trait in their songwriting. As the band grew as musicians and songwriters, the music shifted into a darker, more death metal direction. Performing live with Dissection, Lake of Tears and Beseech, Anata also proved to be an intense live outfit. It was in this arena that the band honed their skills equivalent to that of their more experienced countrymen.

Anata’s first demo, “Bury Forever the Garden of Lie”, was recorded in June 1995. The recording was met with overwhelming success from the European press, and furthered the band’s visibility in the worldwide market. Yet, even with an acclaimed demo behind them and increasing interest from press and labels, guitarist Mattias Svensson and bassist Martin Sjöstrand left the band in 1996. In the same year, Anata found a new bassist in Henrik Drake. Ready for battle once again, Anata recorded their second demo, “Vast Lands Of My Infernal Dominion” in 1997. The demo signaled a continued drive to venture faster into the depths of , using the blueprint drawn and re-drawn by their American counterparts as a guide. By year’s end, the band found Andreas Allenmark to fill in as second guitarist.

@elitist_jerk, taken from their page on metal archives - "Anata's new album is already recorded and mixed (and probably also mastered) and has been so for at least a year, but it hasn't been released due to the band not being able to get a proper record deal. No news on the band have been known for quite some time. It is presumed that there are some issues going on between Anata and Earache Records."

MahdiDonboli: If people shouldn't compare bands, then they also shouldn't hold opinions on bands either, because they will inevitably rank some above others, thus making a comparison. Are you saying nobody should ever rate or assess the quality of music based on standards established by other bands? Ultimately, all our opinions on bands are based on certain standards that music we've heard before dictates. For the record, a band's shoutbox is an excellent forum for discussing bands and, yes, comparing them to others of similar style.

WTF ARE YOU IDIOTS TALKING ABOUT??!?! ARE YOU COMPARING TWO BANDS???? 1st of all this place is NOT the place to discuss this, 2nd of all, You guys are so stupid, because ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY COMPARE TWO METAL BANDS WITH EACH OTHER! 3rd and the last but not least, YOU ARE ALSO AN IDIOT FOR SAYING THAT EPITAPH WAS A BAD ALBUM! :| if this discussion is going to be continued, MAKE A DAMN THREAD IN THE FORUM :|

Necrophagist doesn't have that same brilliant melodic edge as Anata, does it?

Both Necrophagist albums are great, but there is no space on Anata's page to discuss that.

Epitaph sucks pretty bad, though Onset to Putrefaction has some good cuts on it
