Ammego were formed in the early days of the 21st century by 3 musicians who established new genres of music that few have had the musical dexterity to follow, such as Punk-Fusion-Rock, Shroomic-Psyche-Rock and Acoustic Hate Punk.

The name of the band is an anagram of the initials of the names of the members; AM - Andrew Maguire (rhythm guitar, keys, vocals, percussion), ME - Michael Edmunds (guitar, bass, drums, vocals) and GO - Gavin Orr (guitar, vocals).

The songwriting team of Maguire/Edmunds established a prolific partnership in the early days of the band and have the written entire Ammego catalogue, with a few, slight contributions from Orr, who has gone from peripheral member to being almost estranged from the musical endeavours of the group, having not been active with the other two since 2004.

Ammego have, since their formation, maintained a small but fiercely loyal fanbase and due to their unwillingness to commercially release their music, this looks to continue for the forseeable future. The band has been very eclectic in musical styles mixing heavy rock (‘Johnny, Remember Me’), melodic keyboard driven ballads (‘Mazy Rain’) with wistful and deeply touching instrumentals (‘The Spaniard’) and more.

The band’s initial incarnation lasted from early 2000 until a mutually agreed split in August 2004 and a career retrospective album of the band’s best surviving works was compiled and given a limited release in 2005. The title of this album reflected the music it contained - ‘54 Months of Magic - The Best of Ammego’.
