Born in Memphis, pop/country artist Alison Ray, wants you to listen to her music and pay special attention to her lyrics. Even with her charismatic looks and radio friendly voice, it’s the songwriting that drives Alison as an artist. All of the songs on her debut album “Downside Up,” were written by Alison and her writing partner, producer Marc Tanner.
With the formation of Tanner’s Chime Entertainment, he brought Alison’s dreams to fruition, personally producing, “Downside Up.” With upbeat pop/rock gems as well as moving ballads, Ray’s life experiences took shape in songs encompassing themes of overcoming adversity, the good and bad of relationships to self-empowerment.
“I’m really a spontaneous and fun-loving person, so even when things are bad I try to find the positive perspective on the situation. This translates to my songs, so even in the worst of situations I try to relay a positive message and I knew that music was my passion from a very early age”
Her album begins with a song that gives homage to the power of radio on our lives, posing the question, “Does The D.J. Know.” “It is about how a song can take you back,” says Alison, “to a place or time when things were incredibly wonderful like my first boyfriend or a really sad moment; as if the disc jockey is playing with my emotions. The power of radio is huge!”
