According to songfacts.com, Empire State of Mind, Part II: Broken Down is Alicia Keys’ solo sequel to her earlier collaboration with Jay-Z, Empire State of Mind, the anthem to their hometown New York. Jay-Z was originally scheduled to contribute a new verse to the remake but the rapper does not appear on the final version.
