Montreal born Alice Newton (born Alice Russell January 10th 1985) grew up on the sunny beaches of Sydney, Australia. Her love affair with music began at age 8 with her piano, but she soon began exploring a world of songwriting and taught herself acoustic guitar at age 14. By the age of 16 Alice began playing in cafes and coffee shops in nearby beach town of Manly, developing a sweet, folk style and aspiring to be like her idols Jewel, Tracy Chapman and Lisa Loeb (to name a couple).
