Autumn leaves, jack-o-lanterns, pumpkin pie. A chill in the air, a thrilling annual encounter with black cats, witches, and vampires. Indeed, October is underway and the haunting holiday approaches. This Halloween we can anticipate a release from Sound of Cancer, the collaborative music project of recording artists, Alexx Calise and Dennis Morehouse. Layered with hauntingly beautiful melodies, dysphonic distortion, and elaborate choral harmonies woven around ominous soundscapes, Sound of Cancer’s debut ‘No Vampires in Gilroy’, combines Calise’s love of blues, jazz and grunge, and Morehouse’s penchant for all things dark and disturbing,

Alexx Calise can’t wait for Halloween. With red streaks running through her hair and heavy black eyeliner, you might think she’s vamped out early. This year however, the thrill of October 31st is not in the costume. For Calise, it will be in the excitement of releasing the Sound of Cancer debut album, ‘No Vampires in Gilroy.’
...Sound of Cancer is rumbling on the horizon, yet for now Calise sings in support of her own songs, mostly taken from the 2010 rocktronica album, ‘In Avanti.’ Calise is joined by drummer Morehouse and a couple other bandmates for a 9pm set, one of several by various bands playing this intimate bar/stage venue located on the second floor of The Roxy on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip.

  • My top 50 Artists for 2010

I enjoy listing my top artists each year, and 2010 will be no exception. Below are listed my top 50 artists for 2010, the top track(s) and top album(s) for each listed artist, and the position those tracks and albums attained in my 2010 charts. Maybe you'll spot some of your favorites on my charts. If you see any artists, albums, or tracks here that you aren't familiar with, maybe you'll consider giving them a listen. My charts are as much a mixed bag this year as years passed, but I listened to some artists in 2010 to whom even I am a bit surprised to find myself listening. I was in a strange mood this past year, I guess.

There were a lot of ties for track and album positions in 2010, so you'll see some duplicate ranks for tracks and albums in this list. There was even a tie this year for the #50 position for artist rankings, which makes this a top 51 list instead of a top 50 list...

    #50 (tie): Brandy 108 plays
    Top Track: Afrodisiac track #264
