Alva Noto is the stage name of sound artist Carsten Nicolai, who has established himself as an artist amongst current electronic sound and visual designers who are using art and music as creative tools to create microscopic views of hybrid processes.
Jens Massel aka Senking was born in Cologne in 1969 and lives there again today. 1995: Starting with electronic music. 1996: Senking first released on Cologne label Karaoke Kalk as Kandis. At the beginning there were only a few Senking tracks on Kandis records. Later, starting 1997, Senking became an individual project as more and more tracks with this kind of sound were created.
Mark Fell and Mat Steel formed SND in 1998 and were quickly placed at the forefront of new digital minimalism. With a series of influential releases on their own label SND and on the now defunct Frankfurt Mille Plateaux, SND pioneered a sound that combined the linear minimalism of Ryoji Ikeda and Oval, with the rhythmic geometry of techno artists such as Thomas Brinkmann or Derrick May.
Robert Lippok was born in Berlin in 1966.
He founded To Rococo Rot in the '90s with his brother, Ronald Lippok, and Stefan Schneider. He has released Falling into Komeït (2004) and Robot (2006) and is an active visual artist as well.
Aoki Takamasa (青木孝允) was born in 1976 in Osaka. He currently resides in Berlin, Germany. Since the first album, SILICOM, released at the beginning of 2001, Aoki has been reviewing his personal methodology whilst actively creating sounds based mainly on computer/software. Aoki is an energetic artist vigorously expanding the limits of original musical expression.
Olaf Bender's (b. 1968, Chemnitz, Germany) experimental work with film material started during school time, initiated by the casual find of complete 16mm film equipment. From then on an intensive dealing started film, both as medium as the raw material.
