Bagnols Sur Cèze, France (2000 – present)

Alcest is a / band formed in Bagnols Sur Cèze, France in 2000.
Formed by French multi-instrumentalist Neige (who has also worked with Amesoeurs, Mortifera, Lantlôs, Peste Noire, and more).

Alcest was originally conceived as a solo project, though it would eventually take on the form of a full band as Hegnor (also of Peste Noire) and Arguth joined the fray and released a four-track demo entitled Tristesse Hivernale in 2001. This demo was a more straightforward black metal affair, much different from what would happen next. After that released, Alcest returned to a one-member format, with Neige moving away from the metal overtones of the three-piece and embracing a more atmospheric approach to his work. The 2005 EP release, Le Secret, was more in tune with the project`s ultimate goal, which was to put to ear, as it were, Neige`s fascination with an “otherworld” — of sorts — that had held a fascination for him beginning in his childhood. In 2007, Neige released the first full-length Alcest recording, Souvenirs D`un Autre Monde (Memories of Another World, for those keeping up in English), which was released on Prophecy Productions, and was a critical success. 2007 also saw a split-EP release with Angmar. Écailles de Lune (Scales of the Moon), released in 2010, continues in the otherwordly vein, evoking images of an underwater realm.

Corpxnothing and VeridianLoser, I'm afraid to break it to you two but this is a 100% truth, Audrey and the 3 other members of Amesoeurs will be touring in this tour but may or may not reunite. This is a one time thing that is supposed to be an experiment to see if they should or not reunite, and it's not really a surprise anymore but fans will enjoy it

@VeridianLoser: Audrey is indeed touring with them starting tonight and that she was at the Boismont show but did not preform because she hadn't rehearsed with Fursy, Neige, and Winterhalter. @corpxnothing: Not trolling.

To address NihilisticRust: No, that is not a statement of truth. I have recently exchanged words with Ms. Sylvain, therefore I can confirm that she is not participating in anything of that sort at all. Please do not shamelessly spread rumours.

IT'S BEEN CONFIRMED! I e-mailed Fursy asking about the "big surprise" Alcest/Les Discrets want to deliver to their fans and he said, and I quote "An old friend of ours from Amesoeurs will be accompaning us for the tour. That's all I can say." Without a doubt he was talking about Audrey Sylvain.

Intellectual debates on the Alcest shoutbox? I now find myself believing in the absurd 2012 doomsday prophecies.

Go record an album for thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars, book hundreds of shows all over the world, spend more money on the actual production of limited edition vinyl records and box sets, spend even more money for marketing/promotional reasons, etc. Then go cry about all this copyright bullcrap. You are the consumer. You are not entitled to anything. But again, you're missing the point. Prophecy is uploading their entire discography for FREE on Youtube. None of their uploads are even monetized, which means no commercials or banned ads all over the place. The clear difference is that the are willingly giving away their music in lowish streaming quality online; that is their choice. Huge difference between giving fans an legitimate opportunity to preview their music for free and just letting them steal it without your permission.

I'm getting really tired of all this copyright bullcrap. So what if we can listen to the album on YouTube or Grooveshark or somewhere else? People who want to buy the record will buy it anyway. People who like to listen to it occasionally won't buy it anyway, doesn't really matter if they will be streaming it or downloading the mp3s. All that the label and the band would miss is more fans of the 1-st kind - people that have never heard the band before and are loving what they hear when some old fan shares or plays at a party. Is that really bad?

What does does it matter how the video's were deleted? Prophecy filed those complaints fully conscious of the consequences it would have for the channels, and all the hours of work that have been put into into the creation of all those videos. For every video with Prophecy released material in it, about 50 videos were deleted that had absolutely nothing to do with it. They just don't care about everything that happens underneath them, as long as Youtube is structured like they want it to be. Furthermore, if basically all bands on their label had the ability to grow this big because of the illegal sharing of their material, don't you think it's a bit hypocrite to now, once the bands are signed, attack this behaviour, and try to dismantle it no matter what the consequences are for the rest of the people and the smaller bands involved? They owe a lot to the underground music community, but once they have grown out of it, all they do is lift a big fat middlefinger and take it all down.

I agree that the larger bands on Prophecy (namely Alcest and Les Discrets) owe a great deal of their fame to the pirates who have illegally distributed their music for free online without their consent, but the worst thing a professional record label could do is to essentially legitimize their behavior by turning a blind eye to it. As far as shutting down an entire Youtube channel, that's really just a matter of the three strikes rule. If there are three Prophecy-related videos on a particular Youtube channel, and Prophecy decides to file a copyright violation claim on all three of them, then bam, that channel is canceled.
