Biography

There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Alan Dawa Dolma (阿兰·达瓦卓玛; ཨ་ལན་ཟླ་བ་སྒྲོལ་མ; born in July 25, 1987), also known as alan, is a Tibetan singer and player from Sichuan who debuted in 2005 with a cover album entitled 声声酔如蘭 (Sheng Sheng Zui Ru Lan, Entranced With the Sounds of alan).

She is ethnically Tibetan and “Alan” is her Tibetan family name. She grew up in a village called Rongxar in the Danba county of the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, China.

Her father is a civil servant, while her mother is a former singer in the local Art Troupe. She learned singing from a young age and learned how to play the erhu at age eight. At nine years old, alan was selected for the leading role in the Chinese television drama 太陽女神 (Tai Yang Nu Shen), and first pursued a career as an actress. alan was scouted when Avex China held auditions in Beijing, and went on to debut with a Japanese language single in November 2007, entitled 明日への讃歌 (Ashita e no Sanka, A Hymn for Tomorrow) under Avex Trax. She is currently still studying Japanese, and has a basic grasp of the language.

alan was chosen to sing the theme songs for the Chinese epic film RED CLIFF Part I and its sequel RED CLIFF Part II, entitled 心・战 ~RED CLIFF~ (Xin・Zhan ~RED CLIFF~, Heart・War ~RED CLIFF~) and 赤壁 ~大江東去~ (Chi Bi ~Da Jiang Dong Qu~, Red Cliff ~Great River Gone East~), respectively. The Japanese versions used in the Japanese language releases of the films are RED CLIFF~心・戦~ (RED CLIFF~Shin・Sen~ and 久遠の河 (Kuon no Kawa, River of Eternity).

She is better off in the Chinese market now apparently, but because of what she did in Japan, otherwise most of us wouldn't know about her at all and she would've ended up as another generic Chinese singer that nobody cares about, and I hope she doesn't end up that way.

They did the best they could up until 久遠の河 imo, it is hard to make her style marketable, and she came out just before the K-pop hype was about to start. after Kuon no kawa everything became floppy, rushed, unpolished, etc. In China she would've never had anything as great as what she had in Japan. I don't know if she was destined to take off in Japan, she was more like a huge experiment for AVEX, I think they chose well but I'm not sure if they had their target audience properly determined because after certain releases they would scrap what she just did and make her do something complete different, ex. when they made her do pop.

It's not that they hate her. It's just that she's really not very famous. I don't know much about the Chinese market, but I think over there alan is really only known as "that girl who sang the theme for Red Cliff". Her track record in Japan wasn't great either. Even though she was signed with avex, nothing they ever did for her really made her take off in that market. It's not to say that they didn't try. I believe her floppy Japanese had a lot to do with that. alan is better off in the Chinese market, but how to make her marketable is the real question.

v Yea, you're right. The music industry, well, the art industry in general is very hard, I don't blame her for going to a reality show, maybe she's desperate.

v oh and i think they try to make her more known or something, or as alan herself said she wants to be known as something else than the alan who sang for the red cliff etc. though i think there could have been better ways to do that as well but well...if it was her decision i hope she'd do well, but i wish she'd get back to make songs in japan, too. :/

    I don't think it's a matter of hate, it's a matter of record labels.

If they hate her so much in China she should just go back to Japan, make money and take her parents with her or something. Fuck China people who hate on her anyway.

v actually i think she auditioned but the programme had both amateur singers and professionals i think; because i saw a mention somewhere that she advanced to the next "level" with two Yes-votes and one No-vote from the judges (like who would give her a no srsly...anyway) !! D:
