Al DeLory (January 31, 1930 – February 5, 2012) was a less well known musician, producer and arranger than his chart topping resume’ might indicate. His Grammy winning production was a key factor in getting a fellow session musician named Glen Campbell launched. He had a long association with Capitol Records where he produced, arranged and made records with groups like The Turtles, Lettermen, as well as a solo artist. DeLory was a member of Phil Spector’s infamous “wrecking crew” and played on numerous mid 60’s hits by groups like The Beach Boys. He released a handful of recordings under his own name, his biggest hit being a jazz cover of the Theme from M*A*S*H that peaked at #7 on the US Adult Contemporary chart in July 1970. Prior to his death in 2012, he had relocated to Nashville, where his production reputation earned him a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and where he maintained a live Salsa band.
