About This Track

“Right Now (Na Na Na)” is the first single from Akon’s third studio album Freedom. The song contains elements from “Summerlove” by David Tavaré and “Wouldn’t It Be Good” by Nik Kershaw. It went for adds on U.S. Mainstream Top 40 radio on September 23, 2008, and also became available for digital download on iTunes that day. A freestyle using the same set of music as Akon was produced by the rapper Young Dro and is called “Still Sellin (Drugs)”. There is an official remix of Right Now (Na Na Na) featuring Kat DeLuna. An unofficial remix with Jayko titled “Right Now (Na Na Na) / Mañana (Na Na Na)” also exists. The song originally featured Canadian/Portuguese artisit Danny Fernandes.

“Right Now (Na Na Na)” debuted at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week October 2, fueled by high first week digital downloads of 93,000, it has currently climbed to the top ten peaking at #8. It is Akon’s seventh top ten hit as a lead artist, and his thirteenth top ten overall. It also made a Hot Shot Debut at #24 on the Pop 100 the same week, and has climbed back up ahead to #10. The song has sold over 2,000,000 downloads in the Unites States, becoming Akon’s third two-million selling single. On the Canadian Hot 100 chart it debuted at #55 and has risen to #7. The single has been a success in the UK, peaking at #6. In France it debuted at #8 on the French Singles Chart based on huge amount of downloads. In New Zealand, Right Now has been a top five hit, peaking at number five for two weeks.
