The Giant is definitely their worst release so far. I enjoy it, if I had to rate it I'd give it about a 7.5/10 but they're slowly getting worse with each album. Hopefully they can prove me wrong about that statement but as of now, I believe I'm right. And I agree with what you said about the production, the guitars on COTWS are huuuuuuge, everything sounds so... yeah, monstrous.

Monstrous... right from the mouth of Ishmael. That is the essence of production on Wretched Sea, and it can't be topped. Though I appreciate what they've done with Divinity, I just can't get into The Giant. Matter of time thing? maybe, but everything will be under the monstrous shadow of the Wretched Sea, which is a world in itself.

The Call Of The Wretched Sea is one hell of an addicting album, slowly becoming one of my favourites. The Divinity of Oceans is great as well but I was a bit disappointed when it came out, I've grown more fond of it since then but I feel like they're focusing too much on the clean sections that really remind me of Opeth(especially Daniel's vocals). They've even began focusing more on it with The Giant, they're both great albums nonetheless. I'm not one of those guys who thinks "not heavy enough!! sucks!!" but what makes TCOTWS so phenomenal is that there's a balanced dose of heavy, monstrous sections and clean, beautiful sections and well, I already said it, I find they're focusing too much on the clean sections now. Just my opinion I suppose.

Another band I'm regretting not having listened to sooner (The Funeral Doom one). Atmosphere is pretty crushing, can imagine it'd be one hell of an experience live.
