Morning Glow is the second offering from Canadian electronica indie producer Adriane Lake AKA ‘Adri’. Since her first album, Adriane has flexed her music muscle by entirely writing, arranging and producing a new semi-vocal release. With Morning Glow, she brings a tenderness, sweetness and emotive quality to her squishy ambient and thumping arrangements. The addition of her own vocal layers and lyrics to a number of the tracks adds a quirky nerdy femininity when melded with organic textures and stiffer electronic instruments. Using uncommon time signatures, deep bass, treated acoustic instruments and even found sound Morning Glow is an unusually accessible confection of otherworldly songs, decorative textures and unorthodox beats.

Adriane Lake’s prior accomplishments include remixes for such Canadian indie gems as the chart-topping Fidgital and long-standing industrial act Landscape Body Machine. Her previous instrumental release under the moniker ‘Adri’ received regular rotation on Canadian indie and electronica radio. Earlier musical activities have included such diverse outlets as lending her voice to a world music choir and as keyboardist in a hardcore experimental industrial trio. With the release of Morning Glow, this multi-talented DIY producer has lent her distinctive sound to an increasingly polished, inventive and personal side of her work.

Adri's new album is fantastic - a huge musical step from her debut, which I thought was pretty brilliant itself. Her vocals are a surprise - really delightful, in a Stereolab-meets-Bjork kind of way. And all that bubbly analog goodness, very nice. For sure this will make my top albums of 2009.

17 Mar 2012 | from adrianelake.com

A while back I appeared in a Georgia Straight feature about local artists’ new year’s resolutions… I should have blogged it here, but I am a smidgen too shy for my own good. I just feel …
