Biography

Adam Ant is the stage name of Stuart Leslie Goddard (born November 3, 1954, London, England), lead singer of 1980s pop group Adam and the Ants and also a solo artist.

Adam was a member of Bazooka Joe, the band that the Sex Pistols opened for in the Pistols’ first live appearance. Adam and the Ants started as a band, but by the early ’80s they had taken a different path and started making music. By 1981 they were one of the biggest bands in Britain.

In March 1982, feeling certain band members “lacked enthusiasm”, Ant disbanded the group. A few months after the split Ant launched a solo career (though he retained Marco Pirroni as guitarist and co-songwriter).

After the split, Ant went solo, taking his song writing partner Pirroni with him. His greatest American chart success was 1982’s Friend or Foe album, which included the hit single “Goody Two Shoes” which made it to #1 in the UK and Australia, and #12 in the U.S. Other hits from that album included the title song (which made #9 on the UK chart) and “Desperate But Not Serious”. Goody Two Shoes first charted in the UK in Spring 1982, reaching no.1 that summer, but its US peak did not come until 1983 when it reached #12 on the Billboard Top 100.

In 1983, Ant worked with Phil Collins and Richard James Burgess on the “Strip” album which was recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm.

Cool Zombie is the best song from his new album 'Adam Ant is the blue black Hussar in Marrying the Gunners Daughter' in my opinion. Its catchy and better than a lot of the latest music in todays pop culture. Adam Ant is my idol I'm going to see him in March with my friend who thinks his music is new, exiting and tasteful especially Stand and Deliver as it is so different to the music she is used to. - Adamantn01fan xxx

I will admit that at first I was a little taken aback because it was nothing like I would have expected. What I expected was the same sound as years gone by. What I got was an artist that was edgier, more raw, darker and yes fresh.... I know for many that is a tough pill to swallow but as ab artist I feel he has grown in so many wats and has that fuck off if you don't like it attitude. How can it be autobiographical and not? Highlights for me no doubt would if Bullshit. Here comes the BBH ... The Garden song-sorry for title not being accurate? As well as shrink. Would have liked a few more drum driven up tempo but I have a feeling this is only the beginning of something genius ! Vive Le Rock and God Bless you Adam! Caught his show in Nashville this past August. Nothing short of perfection for this fan as well as my guests who weren't even born when Adam was at his peak.... and the had a memory of a lifetime I assure all!

Saw him live a couple weeks ago. He could use a better backing band but otherwise he's a solid entertainer.

I cant believe how many teenagers don't know who Adam Ant is I am 15 and know who he is. He is one of the greatest artist of all time if not the best. Yes I may get bullied for liking someone who was popular in the 80s but al least im different and I don't care what anyone else may say I love Adam Ant and I am reading his bio it is so interesting I listen to his songs 24/7 I love all of his songs all the way from when he first started out to the present. I also had the privilege of going to see him in concert last year in November a truly spectacular performance bravo. Adam Ant forever I love you!!!

I really dislike the lack of production and mixing on the new CD. [2] Stay In the Game is probably the only song I can tolerate on the new album.

New album is bizarre. I kind of like it. I may end up liking the production just because of the sheer disorienting nature of it.

Man! Who mixed the new album! Sounds like a demo ... Sound in and out and the voices sound like trapped white noises! Sad cause the album could have been great! I hope they clean this up and release it again few years later who knows! WOW how this get out did they listen to album before releaseing it ?@!

Many songs sound demo quality on the new album. Disappointing. Shrink and Bullshit are brilliant, though.
