The Abecedarians were a Los Angeles based trio active in the late 80’s. Chris Manecke (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Kevin Dolan (drums) and John Blake (bass) specialized in reverb heavy, synth driven post punk songs. Manecke’s rich vocals and unusual lyrics were the most distictive aspects of this little known band.
In the early mid 90’s, Abecedarians Chris Manecke and John Blake formed “First Men on the Sun” along with Jason Toney on drums. They released a self titled album on Southwest Audio Reproductions in 1995. Their sound is very similar to late Abecedarians.
