  • Swans in black and white.

    16 Sep 2011, 08:14 by antonyharding

    6th June 2011.

    Swans in black and white.

Black Swans On The Water is my first sequel! I'm especially pleased as it's much better than the first song I did about swans, back in 2003, called White Swans On The Water! I would do a third song about swans but I don't think swans come in any other colours.

The proper version will appear on the (now finished) new bird themed album The Birds Sing Goodnight To You And Me due out in the spring of 2012 on Italian collective label, We Were Never Being Boring.

You can find the original version of the song as part of a five song exclusive MP3 EP Black Swans On The Water EP containing home recorded out-takes from the new album sessions only available on Antsongs on Bandcamp.

    The five tracks are:
01 Black Swans On The Water (original version)
    02 In Your Company
    03 Blame On Me
04 Isn't It A Pity We Have To Go Back To The City
05 Don't Leave It Too Long

  • Missing a few (heart)beats.

    16 Sep 2011, 08:10 by antonyharding

    1st March 2011.

    Missing a few (heart)beats.

I recently rediscovered some missing tracks that had hidden themselves away in the many cardboard boxes up in the loft. Several demos from the Footprints Through The Snow album but also the odd wee treasure.

I Long To Quicken The Beat Of Your Heart recorded way back in 2002, was originally intended as a vinyl single in Italy. A Soft Place (acoustic mix) is the mix I did for Darren to work on (minus the guide drums) for the split 7" on Black Kitten Records. Magpies (acoustic version) is the mix I gave to Jack to work on for the These Long Dark Country Roads CD. It came out on the now deleted download only album Bird Songs Bee Songs (on Eardrumspop of Norway). Heading Home(demo) is the home recorded demo of the closing track on the 2006 Footprints Through The Snow album.

The above tracks + several others are now available exclusively to download on Antsongs from my Bandcamp page. Some are free!!!

  • When The Morning Arrives it brings demos, out-takes, rejected songs and a cover…

    16 Sep 2011, 08:05 by antonyharding

    15th June 2009.

When The Morning Arrives it brings demos, out-takes, rejected songs and a cover version.

There are always a few songs that get left behind. Usually in my case because they have a clumsy, muddy lyric that I can't seem to clean up. So I turn my back on them and move on. Now once in a blue moon I'll get nostalgic and seek them out, apologise to them and let them come back out to play. Now seems like as good a time as any.

When The Morning Arrives, Cold Feet, The Only Girl, Grace and What A Wonderful View are 5 songs that got left behind.

When The Morning Arrives is a 25 track MP3 album of previously unreleased recordings, demos, out-takes, rejected songs and a cover version, available now ONLY on ANTSONGS from the Ant webshop!
    * NOW SOLD OUT!!! and only available as a download from BANDCAMP:

01 When The Morning Arrives (unreleased song)
02 The Cure For Broken Hearts (4 track demo)
03 She’ll Be Home Soon (demo)

    In Your Dreams -
ANT 2011 China Tour Shanghai Station Watch
    Text / correspondent Resa

在开场前他先演奏了他2009年专辑《These Long Dark Country Road》中的两首歌《These Long Dark Country Roads》和《Magpies》,他微笑着告诉大家“Tea and Biscuits”,听到他的音乐是否能让你特想一边喝着茶,一边吃着饼干呢?

    在《Footprints Through the Snow》专辑中ANT选择《In Your Dream》作为他的第一首歌。

    30 Aug 2011, 07:51 by antonyharding

I like to draw a line from the start to the end. - Ant

The Band that Don't Reform

Solo musician begins his first China tour.

Global Times. June 16th 2011. By Jiang Wanjuan.

Like many foreign musicians who try to enter the Chinese market, Antony Harding, who plays under the name of ANT, is thrilled to have his first ever solo tour in China.
Harding, still best known as the drummer of London band Hefner, started to play independently as ANT 12 years ago. He says China is one country he never thought he would see.
"I am still pinching myself," he told the Global Times. "China is such a big country; if you can make it there you'll be laughing! Even Bob Dylan has had a go. I hope my first tour is a success and that no one is laughing!" he added.
In his opening show tonight at Beijing's The One Club, Harding will perform songs from his second, and best-known, album Footprints Through the Snow, plus a mixture of old and new material.
For someone of his height (just 194cm), Harding has an unusual voice that one Chinese listener described as "beautiful and clean" on douban. …

    Ant

Ant's music is built from real life: when he sings about the joy and pain of relationships, about sitting in a girl's room too afraid to do anything, about being too often carried away by memories, you can be sure it's himself he's singing about. This intimacy is what makes "Footprints through the snow" special and keeps it close to our hearts. But then, an album that manages to keep its wintery feels having been recorded in the midst of one of the hottest italian summers ever, must have something special about it. By using a fuller orchestration than previous efforts (ofted limited to guitar and voice), Ant has managed to highlight the beauty of his songs and melodies, producing what is probably his best album ever. From his home in Malmoe, Sweden, he has agreed to talk about his work.

How did you manage to record such a wintery album in the midst of a hot italian summer?

I had written and demoed all the songs during the winter of 2003/2004 at home in Sweden…
  • 8 hands interview with ANT

    20 Mar 2008, 13:04 by antonyharding

Hefner's Antony Harding talks about his legendary former band, John Peel, Barbapappa and his current solo project.

It's no wonder that a few years ago Hefner got the honorable title "Britain’s Largest Small Band". Even today, 6 years after their break up, Hefner is still a big name in the music industry as its ex-members have tons of fans and every second artist mentions them as a major influence.

A while ago, Alon wrote here about Darren Hayman's last album and it inspired me to check what's going on these days with the other Hefners. While I was wandering onto different sites, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a wonderful singer/songwriter under the name of ANT, who turned out to be none other than Antony Harding, Hefner's drummer. I was even luckier when Antony accepted my interview request and found the time to answer a few questions.

Why did you choose an alias and didn't stay with your real name? I mean, I get the connection between ANT and Antony, but still, it's not entirely your full name. …

    Ant Footprints Through The Snow

    Article written by Ged M
    Feb 12, 2006.

Antony Harding might be the only person to obey his mum’s injunction that “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. Even when his romantic adventures end badly, there’s no revenge or remorse; “bitter” always comes packaged with “sweet” in Ant’s world. Even bad experiences yield fond memories.

Anyone familiar with his previous work will know what to expect: 13 tender and delicate songs detailing love found, love lost, hearts aching and occasional fulfilment. That could be cloying but in Ant’s hands it works well because of his way with melody, his emotive voice and the arrangements. Recorded in Bologna, Italy, this is Ant’s first “proper” studio album and he’s made use of the time to set up his songs. From the acoustic guitar and simple percussion on the pretty ‘When Your Heart Breaks (Into Many Little Pieces)’ to the tenderly plucked violins of ‘Spent Too Long Walking…
