it only takes a subwoofer or some really good headphones (i use sennheisers) and you can hear the difference. computer speakers are no good though. I have my computer hooked up to my surround sound system, a very cheap onkyo that i got for about 700 bucks, along with two optimus speakers that i got as a gift and they sound absolutely great. I can definitely hear the difference. But my regular computer and laptop speakers, well obviously not.
