Germany (1991 – present)

History and members

:WUMPSCUT: is an electro-industrial project from Germany. It was founded in May of 1991 by Bavarian disc jockey Rudy Ratzinger (born June 3, 1966).

Ratzinger has always been the main creative force behind :wumpscut:, occasionally employing the help of others as guest artists. Ratzinger cites the influence of such bands as Leæther Strip as his reason for making the transfer from DJing to recording music.

The release of the song “Soylent Green”, which is named after the 1973 movie and also contains audio samples from the German dubbed version, first attracted attention to :wumpscut:. Since its release in 1993, it has become a frequently played song at events and clubs in the gothic and industrial subcultures and its associated splinter groups, both in Germany and the United States.

So far Ratzinger has published numerous recordings and remixes for other artists. :wumpscut: is also very well known for elaborate box set releases including limited versions of a CD or LP release in a box with additional and often also limited bonus material (bonus tracks, “liquid soylent” energy drinks, posters, pins, stickers, bags, flags, etc.). :Wumpscut: albums are reissued regularly with variant artworks and occasionally bonus tracks. Standalone merchandise is also available such as caps, mugs, etc.

Rudy Ratzinger has to date released 17 studio albums plus a number of compilations comprising of demos, compilation tracks and remixes from deleted singles & EPs. The 18th :wumpscut: album is out in April 2015. It is titled ‘Blutspuker Tavern’.

So how many of you guys will buy Rudy's latest repackaging of existing material in a totally brand new product for a new price? That is his specialty.

skalberg242: yeah, it's kinda fascinating just how uneven his stuff is. Some tracks are up there as some of the best in the genre, others are incredibly uninspired or even downright inane.

This music project is the epitome of "hit and miss". Mostly miss, but the good tracks are really memorable. Haven't listened to anything released after Bone Peeler though, and I don't plan to.

Ah fuck what I said some months ago. I listen to some months to this guy now. And yes, I listened to his whole Discography! Nothing is missing. What can I say? Just wow. For the fact that he releases every year a album his stuff has good quality. I cant tell of any bad album except maybe Bone Peeler. No clue, album just doesnt get me. And yes I already listened 2 times and more to all his stuff. There are a lot of good songs on his releases even though some are 08/15. I really like this music. Its different from the usual Industrial. Wumpscut already took place 2 in my most listened bands, mainly because of the amount of stuff. Definitely worth a listen not as boring as I thought. My favorite album is probably Evoke even though this album is handled as one of the worst. Nearly every track on this album is great especially Churist Churist, Hold, Don't Go, Breathe. Well enough. Good stuff!

bulwark bazooka (boring edition) [2] Protip: work on your next album at least two years and flesh your songs out a bit and give them some love instead of treating them as trash. People will eventually stop buying your albums when they sound uninspired.
