3rd Machine could well be described as the next step in metal. Perfectly blending heavy songs with both brutal and melodic vocals, the band is crossing the boundaries of metal and industrial orientated music.

Starting off in 2005, 3rd Machine has been experimenting with vocal based songs since the beginning. Allthough the first demo still shows influences of their former bands, the new promotional CD “Urban Madness” clearly reveals a fresh and unique mix of power and harmony. It’s more mature, more balanced and definitely more brutal, which producer Arno Krabman of Graveland Studio can be accounted for.

3rd Machine was originally founded in 2000 by vocalist and keyboardplayer John Ruiter, guitarist Ronald Kools, bassplayer Finus Tromp and drummer Vincent Gerits right after their former band Horizon had split up. Unfortunately it proved to be too soon for a new band and after 3 months the project was put on hold.

It wasn’t untill September 2005 when John and Ronald decided to have another go at 3rd Machine. Soon Finus joined the band too, accompanied by drummer Niek Kuijper. In this first line up, the demo “Saraphin” was recorded in the Excess Studios in Rotterdam.

For 3rd Machine this demo proved to be an eye opener. The music wasn’t metal, it wasn’t rock… it was something in between, which gave all bandmembers an awkward and unsatisfying feeling. We like our coffee black and our music heavy but somehow this was neither of those. To spice things up, guitarist Pieke Kops was asked to join the band.
