  • 13th Floor Elevators – Easter Everywhere

    Artiste : 13th Floor Elevators
    Album : Easter Everywhere
    Année : 1967
    Genre : Psychédélique Rock

Pouah!

Live where your heart can be given
And your life starts to unfold
    In the forms you envision
In this dream that's ages old
On the river layer is the only sayer
You receive all you can hold
    Like you've been told.

  • A Brief History Of...The Psychedelic Era

    29 Jan 2008, 23:08 by BadgerJohn31

The description and playlist below are from the weekly radio show (A Brief History Of…) that my friend and I host on WSUM 91.7fm Madison (the University of Wisconsin's radio station). We selected songs we felt were either historically important or just representative of each specific topic. Please comment if you feel we missed something or just to give your opinion. Remember, however, that we do this show in an hour (about 50 minutes of music). Track length is a major factor in our decisions (shorter is usually better). Thanks!

A Brief History of…The Psychedelic Era covers the vital period of musical experimentation in the mid- and late-60s that included artists and bands from many sub-genres of both American and British rock and roll. The show begins with an explanation of the connection between the prevalent mind-altering drugs and the creative music explosion of the period. The final segment shows the importance of psychedelic music from this brief period on the future of rock as…

  • 1960's: the rhythm, the rhyme, the culture the time

    28 Mar 2007, 06:24 by vargas_girl

I was just archving some of my old research paper and I can across one did for college reading writing about 1960's counter-culture. I just thought those of you who appreciate 60's rock and hippie culture might want to read this.

1960's: The Rhythm, The Rhyme, The Culture, The Time
    written by Kristy Parker

The beginning of the 1960's was relatively the same as the 1950's. But by the middle of the decade, huge changes were occurring in not only the government but in people's general mindset. The Vietnam War was responsible for taking thousands of lives and the innocence of a younger, idealistic generation. Vietnam, among other social changes such as women's rights, civil rights, and the gay power movement caused society to split into two halves: one "straight" and one "counterculture." The largest, most famous groups of the counter culture experience were the "hippies." The hippies rebelled against straight laced society in their attempt to search for freedom, mind expansion, and brotherly love. …
  • 13th Floor Elevators - Easter Everywhere

    10 Dec 2006, 23:59 by discoDrive

13th Floor Elevators, for those of you who are not familiar, are a psychedelic garage rock band who formed in the 60s. Just listening to them reminds me of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. You might consider them to be stoner rock.

Easter Everywhere is probably the stand-out album of their career. After the amazing debut album, with instant classics such as "Your Gonna Miss Me", it could have been easy to release a mediocre effort, but Easter Everywhere is easily as good as The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators, if not better.

The band seem to have settled into their music, and found their sound in psychedelic trippy rock music. The first few tracks are completely compelling, and the album remains strong when it gets to the awesome Bob Dylan cover, Its All Over Now, Baby Blue. If you like 60s music at all, definately check out this band.
