1000 violins were the first trendy jangley guitar band with a string synth to start getting recognition out of Sheffield 1985-89. They were album of the year 1988 in Sheff star. They had a few national singles of the week and reached No1 in BBc radio north with “All aboard the love-mobile” A lack of a professional manager meant the band split. Bands that came later were the crysalids (John wood) splendid fellows, the hays office, spiggott (Vince keenan) and spiggott v zane (Vince Keenan + zane of vib-gyor!) the dylans (Colin Gegory) and Orange fall (Ian Addey). Vince Keenan has a tribute site to all the bands at www.vincekeenan.netfirms.com. There is small talk of maybe some sort of recording re-union between the key members of 1000 violins in 2008. A best of cd was released on vinyl Japan in 2001 and a re-ssued track on a small Berlin indie comp 2002.

Great band. The album Like 1000 Violins sounds like The Divine Comedy doing jangle pop.
