  • This week I 'ave mostly been listenin' to

    11 Jul 2006, 18:20 by Wytukaze

...post-rock. Current favourite tracks include I Have Two Shadows, The Circumstance, and Slowly. As for artists, the ubiquitous Sigur Rós, the aforementioned ...Of Sinking Ships and The Octopus Project currently delight.

However! I want to talk about some tracks, definitely not post-rock, that are making me happy, and are being listened to rather a lot right now. Actually, I won't talk about them, I'll just list them.

    Alaska: Lost and Found
    I'll Call You
    Battle Hymn (Demo)
    Everything is Fine
    Simple Steps

    Check that out.

Oh, and I also have much love for Black Forest I, even though it's just an intro track, really.

  • Reflection on Recent Top 10

    26 Apr 2006, 10:39 by Flah

    1 Tarentel 54
It may have taken me a few more years than some of you (six to be exact, and of course you want to me exact when you're rubbing it in), but The Order of Things is goddamn good. But really, what more can you expect from a band named after a traditional dance in rapid 6/8 time characterized by the rapid whirling of couples. Yes I looked that up. No, I'm not going to cite my sources. No. NO! Look, n-Wikipedia. I feel worse now.

    2 John Coltrane 35
I think I've covered Trane every week so I don't exactly have anything new to say. My deepest apologies. I can tell that you care by the amount of despair in your scrolling. That sound is your middle mouse button weeping.

    3 Yusef Lateef 29
I've just noticed that I have some weird skin thing on the back of my hand. What does this have to do with listening to Live at Pep's all week? Probably nothing, but maybe, maybe everything!*

    * No, still probably nothing.

  • Birthday Playlist

    26 Feb 2006, 20:55 by Flah

Sometimes you get so caught up in trying to track down new music that you forget to listen to the stuff you love.

Today I decided to make a birthday playlist. Hey, it’s supposed to be a good day (or so I’m told, the last few have been less than perfect) so, naturally, I didn’t want any shit music floating out of my speakers. I complied a list, quick and dirty, and realized that I haven’t listened to a lot of this stuff in a damn long time. I mean, it’s not like I’ve grown out of it at all, I still love it but to fuel my all consuming music addiction I guess that I’m constantly hunting down new stuff instead of sticking with what immediately pleases me. Weird. Am I a masochist or do I unconsciously try and challenge myself by swimming in unknown waters?

A selection of stuff played today along with stream of conscious passages:

    .hopesfall.
.Hopesfall. is one of two bands (!T.O.O.H.! being the other) where I feel obligated to add all the bells and whistles into their name; in this case, the periods. …
