This city has lost a certain hold inside I've been around and seen one hundred scenes It feels so worn being chained here to this life Where those who dare to tread the wheel Spend half a life deciding what went wrong One day find out what's behind that hill Until you feel it's all part of some crazy scheme It conjours in you memories 'til Trying to find out what took you so long You discover what's behind the hill Into the stained glass cavern of the night You picked me up and we went for a drive You turn to say, your eyes fixed on the rows Take me from this place I know But I can feel its hand and it's guiding me in sign From lives I've tried to lead The ruined landscape that I once called home I don't know what in this world is trying to save me Will melt away in source tags & in code Each painted sign along the road To the one that I received

Mindblowing piece of music. I first heard it in 2005 or 2006. I remember it, I was in 10th or 11th grade. Life was forming. This song is the sound of a journey, the whole album is. People like to laugh about the Pitchfork review. After all these years I really do believe that the album deserved that rating. It's a transcendent work and this song really makes it obvious.

Put together with Relative Ways and After the Laughter, this is just a phenomenal way to end a phenomenal album.

One of my all time favorite tracks. Catchy, cathartic, aching. A bittersweet anthem for a lost generation

years ago, I listened to this on the last day of 9th grade. I don't think the lyrics are relevant, but the feeling the song gives me sure is.
