California, United States (2003 – present)

Formed by the founder of post-hardcore group Mahumodo (1997-2003) Mehdi Safa and Mahumodo drummer Tom Harriman, based in the California and in United Kingdom, *shels released their debut ‘wingsfortheirsmiles’ EP in 2003 on their own imprint (*)shelsmusic. Their debut album ‘Sea Of The Dying Dhow’ was released on June 18, 2007 also through (*)shelsmusic.

Second album “Plains of the Purple Buffalo” was released on July 11 2011 on (*)shelsmusic. Tracks from that album can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/listentoshelsmusic/

Showcasing progressive, cinematic soundscapes and raw brutality, *shels’ live lineup has featured members of Eden Maine, Mahumodo, and Fireapple Red.

*shels was formed in 2003 following the split of Mehdi Safa’s former band Mahumodo. While some of his former band mates went on to form Devil Sold His Soul, Mehdi (born in America of Lebanese and Iranian parents) relocated to Los Angeles and formed *shels.

*shels released “Laurentian’s Atoll” in December of 2007 again to acclaim from the press.
