(We are) Performance met in Manchester, England, while all three members attended university. The band members are Joe Stetch (Singer), Laura Marsden (Guitar) and Joe Cross (Drums). Laura’s sister Hilary Marsden was a brief member of the band before leaving after the release of their debut album.

After being dropped by their first record label, the band were asked by their new label to change their name, (then, Performance) to get away from the negativity of the band, and (We Are) Performance was born out of it.

Influenced by artists such as Fad Gadget, Leonard Cohen, Chris Waddle, Anais Nin, Bruce Springsteen, John Banville, New Order, The Sound and Michael Jackson.

@danzero : Please don't do that! The name of the band IS Performance, the (We Are) Performance name change was just because of a mess with their former record label (read their official Facebook page). On last.fm, the Performance page was administrated by Fiction/Polydor and this one by the band (but they don't really care about last.fm anymore) and I don't think it's possible to merge them. For the sake of giving the band more visibility please scrobble everything under the name Performance, even the songs form the first album.
