(We are) Performance met in Manchester, England, while all three members attended university. The band members are Joe Stetch (Singer), Laura Marsden (Guitar) and Joe Cross (Drums). Laura’s sister Hilary Marsden was a brief member of the band before leaving after the release of their debut album.

After being dropped by their first record label, the band were asked by their new label to change their name, (then, Performance) to get away from the negativity of the band, and (We Are) Performance was born out of it.

Influenced by artists such as Fad Gadget, Leonard Cohen, Chris Waddle, Anais Nin, Bruce Springsteen, John Banville, New Order, The Sound and Michael Jackson.

@danzero : Please don't do that! The name of the band IS Performance, the (We Are) Performance name change was just because of a mess with their former record label (read their official Facebook page). On, the Performance page was administrated by Fiction/Polydor and this one by the band (but they don't really care about anymore) and I don't think it's possible to merge them. For the sake of giving the band more visibility please scrobble everything under the name Performance, even the songs form the first album.

@HappinessHURTS - No. In this page, I've informed "(We Are) Performance" is correct and, at "Performance" page, I've informed that name was wrong and suggested correction into "(We Are) Performance".

For the merging situation that was discussed some days ago, I'd suggest you to click at "Suggest a correction." at the end of the right row on this page and on the Performance page. I already did but I'm only one... By the way, great band! ;)

I don't know, this name thing is a mess and i think their management should take care of it! I'm just trying to help to promote an indie band that i'm very fond of and online presence is important! Apology accepted ;)

Well they started in 2003 under the name Performance and i actually have some of their early singles on 7". On their official Myspace page, they present themself as Performance. I think that the name change to (We Are) Performance had more to do with the broken with Polydor.... But yes, please, ask them what they want their page to be named! I bought the new album on iTunes, the artist name is Performance and my scrobbles will go to the other page...
