(M)Rated (AKA Michael Soutar) is an Australian musician who has been producing electronic music since the early 90s using the software tools of the era from synths in the 90s, through 8bit and 16bit module trackers to modern sample-based software. With influences as widely ranged as The Cure, Severed Heads, Nine Inch Nails and Enya His style is eclectic and can range from ambient electronica (The Wave) to dance (Japanese Garden) to industrial metal (Head Ripper) to epic theatrical pieces (Dark HoriZen).
Hailing from a musical family he learnt piano from an early age, starting with the Suzuki Method around the age of 10 and moving on to a more standard piano education before throwing in the towel due to not wanting to be forced to play "someone else's music".
Over the years he has collaborated with other like minded musicians and has composed remixes for artists such as Deep Blue Day. He has also produced a few tracks intended for use in other electronic media (e.g. video games) but none of those projects has seen the light of day.
