Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl is a film directed by actress Joan Chen. This sad movie tells the story of the young title character, who, like many of her city-bred peers in ’60s and ’70s China, is “sent down” to the remote country to receive specialized training. And like many of her sent down peers, Xiu Xiu is quickly forgotten about—thus resorting to desperate, degrading measures to return home.
The music was done by Taiwanese musician Johnny Chen.
(Wikipedia)

“…the movie where we got the band name from “xiu xiu the sent down girl” is the most difficult depressing movie ever made, there is no resolution and there is no peace at the end nothing is solved after months of confusion and self torture. the songs we are working on are about things that have happened that are like that”

( interview with JAMES STEWART of Xiu Xiu Band ).
