Tokyo, Japan (1997 – present)

Miu Sakamoto (坂本美雨), born May 1, 1980, is a Japanese vocalist. She is the daughter of Akiko Yano, a famed Japanese jazz-pop artist and composer, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, who is an Academy Award-, Grammy-, and Golden Globe-winning Japanese musician, composer, record producer and actor, and former member of legendary Japanese electropop band YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra). Born in Tokyo, Japan, but growing up in New York, Sakamoto developed a worldly aptitude from a young age, and is fluent in English. Her musical style can be described as very ethereal, dreamy pop. Indeed, Miu is known for her powerful soprano voice. She also writes many of her songs.

She release music on a very infrequent basis, her newest album being her first in two years, and her last single release being in 2005. She debuted under the moniker Sister M in 1997, and then under her real name with the album “aquascape” in 1998.
