Kaya is a Japanese solo singer. He started his career in indies rock band Meties in the late 90s, later moving to another indies rock band, Isola, which was active around 2000. During this time Kaya was using the alias 姫 (Hime; Princess).

Neither Meties or Isola gained very much recognition and they both soon disbanded. It wasn’t until Kaya teamed up with Hora (ex-Velvet Eden) to form electro/darkwave band Rudolf Steiner in 2001 when things started to get bigger. They had released two singles when they got spotted by Mana (Moi dix Mois; ex-MALICE MIZER) who saw their potential and quickly signed them under his personal record label Midi:Nette, simultaneously re-naming the band as Schwarz Stein. Schwarz Stein became widely popular and it wasn’t until the year 2004, after two singles and two albums, when they disbanded due creative differences. Both Kaya and Hora went solo on their own ways but they remained in good terms, later collaborating together as another cell and releasing one album in 2006. Kaya has since been working solo.

Kaya’s musical style is by no means limited to only one genre or mood. Instead, it ranges from different types of electro (pop, techno, trance, dark) to more traditional type of songs (jazz, rock, ballads, enka, chansons), from happy to sad and everything between, and he has proven himself to not be afraid to try new things what comes to music. His lyrics tell about human relationships, different feelings confronted among love and passion and a dark bold world doomed for decadence.
